Excessive Sweating

Also known as hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating can have a debilitating effect on self-esteem, the motivation and ability to exercise and can affect relationships and emotional wellbeing.

Although this condition usually involves the armpits, it can occur on any part of the body.

Causes of excessive sweating:

Severe excessive sweating is caused by an overactivity of the sweat glands. It is important to exclude other causes such as particular medical conditions that can also lead to excessive sweating. If these have been excluded then there are options to help with this.

Treatment options:

  • Topical over the counter preparations such as roll-ons and sprays that contain aluminium chloride 20% (also known as Driclor) are first line treatments.

Treatment Options:

BOTOX TREATMENT FOR AXILLARY HYPERHIDROSIS

This treatment is very effective, with noticeable effects beginning to appear after two days and a full effect apparent within a week.

The treatment lasts approximately seven to nine months.

ORAL MEDICATION

There are some tablets that can be taken to decrease sweating. However, in practice, the side-effects of these often outweigh the benefits.
